Allotments and mulled wine

Last Saturday it was announced, there would be mulled wine, mince pies etc at a Christmas gathering by the Shed at mid-day. It was raining, I was still battling a cold, but decided to make my way down there - I wanted some faces of my fellow tenants, who have been scarce during my visits up till now.

I can't say I had to fight my path through the crowds, but there was a comfortable number of people huddled under a green awning, holding on to steaming mugs of mulled wine. One friendly woman amongst the friendly faces of men of mature ages, and they all have been members for ages. And all seemed happy to share memories and experiences, good and bad. I didn't stay long, my cough started to take over the conversation, so with 'Merry Christmas, see you later' ringing in my ears I turned back on the muddy path, with a warm feeling of having lots of gardening in good company to look forward to - I feel ready to take on the challenge of communal soil toil!
